PowerPoint Tips
- Consistent theme for background looks the most professional
- Slide layouts
- K.I.S.S-keep it simple
- Pictures- use them, it makes your presentation more interesting
- be careful about enlarging pictures-check that they’re in focus
- 3 per slide is recommended. Use a new slide for additional photos.
- Titles- have them come in with the page
- Bullets should be outline form, try NOT write full sentences
- Animation in moderation
- medium or slow speed so it’s visible
- Motion animation-slow and to three points at most.
- Watch where the text ends- does it interfere with the next bullet?
- Emphasis and exiting of text-
- Keep animations in order of the text; ie: text enters, is emphasized as you talk about it and then it exits before you move on to the next bullet
- Text should stand alone
- not on top of pictures (unless the photo is washed out)
- check that color of text is readable on the background color
- Sound effects- use in moderation
- Presenting…
- emphasize the bullet as you speak
- Timing:practice speaking with the timing of the entrance of the bullet; adjust your speed so you are with it, not before it.
- don’t read your slides- use the notes feature in PPT that the audience can’t see.
